Green Innovations Bootcamp for Ethiopian Climate Innovators.
iceaddis organized a green innovations bootcamp for Ethiopian climate innovators and young environmentalists in Addis Ababa in collaboration with Finnish Embassy and Climate Innovation Center (CIC).
The aim of the two-days bootcamp is to find innovative products to tackle environmental issues in the country. The approach was to team up the technologists and environmentalists together on the process they develop tools and products to solve local environmental challenges. The bootcamp also aimed to promote environmental entrepreneurship and innovations and build bridges between Finnish and Ethiopian startup and business communities.
Ten best ideas were selected from a total of sixty-three applications. Mentored by technology and environmental experts to develop the business model and later presenting the ideas to judges and invited guests.
Daniel Gizaw , CEO , DVentus and one of the judges for the final competitions said “The continuation of these kind of process will make the country very competitive and also very business oriented as well as grow the economy with the climate”
Estifanos Kiflu, 23-year-old architectural student, and Amare Assefa, an engineer from AAiT were announced the winners of the competition by the Ambassador of Finland, Sirpa Mäenpää. These young entrepreneurs will represent the country in SLUSH 2014 event in November in Helsinki, Finland.
